John Bell – Manager
I’ve been the Manager here at the Youth Project since its beginning, having worked in Wales, Liverpool and Scotland. As a teenager I was very involved in the Scouts, youth clubs and youth exchanges, and this gave me the desire to train as a Youth Worker. After 25 years doing it as my full-time job, there’s still lots of new ideas to develop and every day is different. My passions are activities such as canoeing and camping, and I’m very involved with our local football team. Later this summer I’ll be leading a group of young people to sunny Morocco, having previously led groups to Iceland, India, Borneo, Nepal and many others – it’s a big world out there and I love creating opportunities for other people to explore it too!
Our Supported Accommodation team have been providing housing for young people since 1996 and currently operates with a staff team of two full time workers, our team leader, Jackie Watson and support worker Gary Morton.
Beehive Youth Club
Our youth work team, based at ‘The Beehive’ boasts an eclectic staff team. Merrick Thomson is our full time Youth Work Team Leader assisted by Volunteers who work closely to create a welcoming team each with different skills.
Merrick has now been with the project for 16 years, starting as a trainee, she now has a Degree in Youth and Community Work.
