John Bell – Manager
I’ve been the Manager here at the Youth Project since its beginning, having worked in Wales, Liverpool and Scotland. As a teenager I was very involved in the Scouts, youth clubs and youth exchanges, and this gave me the desire to train as a Youth Worker. After 25 years doing it as my full-time job, there’s still lots of new ideas to develop and every day is different. My passions are activities such as canoeing and camping, and I’m very involved with our local football team. Later this summer I’ll be leading a group of young people to sunny Morocco, having previously led groups to Iceland, India, Borneo, Nepal and many others – it’s a big world out there and I love creating opportunities for other people to explore it too!
Our Supported Accommodation team have been providing transitional housing with support for young people since 1996 and currently operates with a staff team of two full time workers, our team leader, Jackie Watson and support worker Gary Morton.
Information & Support
The Information and Support Services team have been offering free, confidential support to young people aged 13-25 since the Project opened in 1995. The current team is Debra Jerdan, team leader along with youth support worker Cordelia Scott.
Beehive Youth Club
The Beehive is currently hosting our ‘Community Crew’ who are an amazing group of young people who meet every Wednesday and Thursday evening in the Beehive. Led by Debra and a host of other volunteers, the ‘crew’ are busy with a variety of activities, all with aim of doing something that benefits the local community. Activities so far include creating bee friendly areas, maintaining community gardens, compiling word searches for local care home residents and carrying out random acts of kindness to local people.
