Berwick Youth Project has for many years provided opportunities for those young people with a sense of adventure.
Close to home, we use our own equipment to offer canoeing on the Tweed and Till, and regularly run expeditions on the water, such as the classic five day descent of the River Spey in Scotland where we camp each night on our journey from mountains to the sea.
On dry land, we use the hills and mountains of the Cheviots and Lake District to provide challenges on foot, which can include Duke of Edinburgh’s Award expeditions. Since becoming an Award Unit in 2010, over 50 young people have completed their Bronze, Silver or Gold Awards.
In 2007 we had our first overseas adventure, with a wonderful experience in Iceland, followed by the slightly warmer destination of Morocco in 2008, 2009, 2010 and 2013, which has proven to be a great venue
for us.
We work hard to provide safe, challenging, and affordable opportunities, so that as many young people as possible can have a taste of the great outdoors.
